PRICING POLICY
1. Legal Expenses Cover
1.1 Please check to see if you have any Legal Expenses insurance policy which may cover the costs of any dispute. Such a policy is often an "add-on" to household insurance.
2. Charging by Time
2.1 We have an obligation to assess costs on a fair and reasonable basis and we see that as meaning fair and reasonable to both you and to the work we undertake for you and us. In addition to time, which forms the basis of our charge, we may take any of the following into account:
2.1.1 The complexity of the matter or the difficulty or novelty of the questions raised.
2.1.2 The skill, labour, specialised knowledge and responsibility involved.
2.1.3 The amount of paperwork and electronic data involved.
2.1.4 The location where the work has to be carried out or any special circumstances surrounding the performance of the work.
2.1.5 The amount or value of any money or property involved.
2.1.6 Whether or not any land involved is registered under the Land Registration Acts.
2.1.7 The importance of the outcome of the work to you.
2.2 We are required to have secured your approval for the basis of charge in advance of carrying out the work. We believe that you should be fully aware of the charges that we shall be making at the commencement of the work that we do for you.
Where it is not possible to provide you with a specific figure, we will give you as much information as possible as to how the charge will be calculated.
2.3 If your instructions change, we may need to revise any estimate given, but we will notify you of that in writing.
2.4 Where your matter is urgent it may only be possible for us to estimate the cost of the initial stages, until we receive full details from you. We will provide an indication of the likely costs and will follow this up with more detailed costs information as soon as reasonably practicable.
2.5 If you have to withdraw your instructions, or circumstances arise which mean they cannot be fulfilled, we reserve the right to make a reasonable charge for the work done to that point.
2.6 VAT will be payable in addition to any estimate of charge.
2.7 As our charge is based on the cost of time, we will apply hourly or daily rates of charge for the person carrying out the work depending on their skills and qualifications and the nature of the work undertaken. Director solicitor level, such as Allis Beasley, will be charged at £385 per hour plus VAT. Junior solicitors will be charged at £250 per hour plus VAT, and all other junior (non-solicitor) fee-earners will be charged at £145 per hour plus VAT.
2.8 We may charge disbursements as well as our fees. They may include photocopying and printing costs. Mileage may be charged at £0.45 per mile. A4 black and white printing/copying will be charged at £0.15 per page, and £0.25 per page for A4 colour printing/copying. A3 black and white printing/copying will be charged at £0.35 per page, and £0.55 per page for A3 colour printing/copying.
2.9 Our invoices will be submitted on a monthly basis and are payable on presentation, i.e. immediately upon receipt. We reserve the right to charge interest in accordance with Section 14 of the Solicitors (Non–Contentious Business) Remuneration Order 1994 if settlement is not received within one month. The rate applicable will be that payable on judgment debts.
3. Debt Recovery: Debts of up to £100,000
3.1 In cases where we are instructed to recover a debt, we will charge on the basis of the time spent on the case, irrespective of the value of the debt.
3.2 We do however seek to agree a fixed fee for the sending of a letter demanding payment of the debt. Provided the paperwork is relatively straightforward, we would seek to agree a fixed fee of around £400 plus VAT for dealing with such a letter.
